Let Me Introduce Myself

Hello Everyone.

I guess it’s about time I introduce myself.

Hi! I am Sara.

I started working at the fibre lab at the beginning of January, and it is a wonderful excuse for me to play with fibre every day!

A bit about me,

I am from Ontario. My husband and I moved here in 2016 with hopes of buying a house with some land. After a bit of bouncing around we found a nice little place near Blomidon and started a farm. It’s been a busy couple of years, starting a business, building connections, and finding a market, all with 2 toddlers. We are going into year three of actively farming and selling at the Wolfville Farmers Market.

As hard as it can be I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love looking out my window and seeing a field of green. I love that I can eat 3 cucumbers a day in the summer from our greenhouse. I love that my children get excited about eating the things we grow, even though we have to lock them out of the greenhouse to stop eating all the tomatoes.

I guess I have always wanted to start a farm because I have always had a passion for making things. Once I get an idea I have a hard time putting it down.

I started knitting as a teenager and never stopped. But for me I always want to do more.

If I want to knit a sweater, I would rather sheer the sheep, wash the wool, spin it, dye it, and knit it. I mean what crafter wouldn’t rather spend $200 and 20 hours making something they could buy for half the price!

Over the years I have dabbled in many things. I have made soap, I draw, I paint, I sew, I cook and bake. If it can be made, then I want to make it.

For me, this doesn’t really feel like a job (which lets be honest is the best job). I get to spend everyday making things, and dreaming about all the things that I can make. And it is a wonderful excuse for me to learn new things. Why not learn how to weave. Why not learn clothing design. Jewelry making? Wet and needle felting? The possibilities are endless.

Although I will say my husband is starting to despair about the rate new spinning wheels and sewing machines are appearing in the house.

Come stop by and say Hi, see what we are working on or ask questions about the process. If you want to learn, or if you want to share your experience, I love to talk fibre and creation.
